The cast of "To Kill a Mockingbird" at the Shubert Theater The play "To Kill a Mockingbird," a stage adaptation of the highly regarded Harper Lee novel., won't reopen after pressing pause in January of this year. The hit Broadway show closed temporarily twice due to the pandemic, the first time when Broadway theaters were shuttered in March 2020.  It reopened in October of 2021 at its original home, the Shubert Theater, and closed for a second time in January of this year, when New York City was being slammed by the omicron variant.  At the time of its second closing, the producers said it would reopen on June 1 at the Belasco Theater; that later changed to a November 2022 reopening at the Music Box Theater. Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize winning and controversial 1960 novel, "To Kill a Mockingbird" – a book that tackles the difficult topic of race in America as well as class, courage, and values – has largely withstood the tes

Summer is here and Covid-19 travel rules around Europe have very much relaxed. That means one thing: romantic city mini breaks are back in business, baby. Unfortunately, that's not quite all of the obstacles out of the way. No, I don't mean the ongoing queues, cancellations and general chaos at Heathrow and Gatwick airports - but the more long-term issue of city holidays being especially pricey. Food, drinks, activities, transport, it all adds up, wherever you go. But considerably less so at one underrated European capital city, according to a recent study. (Picture: Dinendra Haria/SOPA Images/LightRocket via Getty Images) As more Londoners return to venues and offices around the capital, surely that'll mean a few more bus and Tube rides, too. Perfect timing! On March 1, Transport for London's fares will see the biggest price hike in a decade… While the (average) 4.8% rise in ticket costs may be inevitable due to the pandemic, it's useful to know how much you'll be shelling out for your daily bus journey or Tube trip going forward. Here are the current prices – and what they're going up to. How much does the London Tube cost? Right now, a single Tube journey in one zone costs £2.40. By March 1, the cost will rise by 10p to £2.50. How much you'll need to pay for a single fare or ticket really depends on where you're going, though. Hawaii’s Royal Kona Resort to reopen after 7-month closure - Hawaii News Now

Image
KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (AP) — The Royal Kona Resort on Hawaii island plans to reopen to guests following a seven-month closure amid the coronavirus pandemic and a multi-million dollar renovation. The three-tower resort overlooking Kailua Bay on the western side of the Big Island expects to open Thursday, West Hawaii Today reported Tuesday. The Royal Kona is the only property in the area expected to reopen on the same day the state launches a program enabling travelers to avoid a 14-day quarantine by taking COVID-19 tests before arriving in Hawaii. Since the implementation of the quarantine mandated by Democratic Gov. David Ige in March, visitor arrivals to the Big Island have dropped 97% and hotel occupancy has hovered at around 30%, the newspaper reported. Royal Kona Resort General Manager Jay Rubenstein said there have been "quite a few" reservations already at the 428-room property owned by Honolulu-based Hogan Hospitality Group. Lake Como’s New Hotel Passalacqua Rewrites Rules of Luxury Hospitality - WWD

Image
Call them clichés or basic desires, but when it comes to envisioning a dreamy gateway to Italy there are must-haves on any traveler's list: A sunny scenic view, majestic natural landscapes, great food, some historic sites and all-around style (not to mention a bit of shopping time). The new luxury hotel Passalacqua on Lake Como caps this off with the warmth of a family that embodies quintessential Italian hospitality. A private villa since 1787 nestled amid centuries-old cypress trees and olive groves and standing above the village of Moltrasio, the historic estate has been restored and turned into a sumptuous 24-suite retreat by the De Santis family. They have been an institution in the luxury hotel world since the '70s, when the family purchased the Grand Hotel Tremezzo and transformed it into one of the most sought-after destinations in the area. B.C. COVID cases, hospital admissions down this week - Cranbrook Townsman

Image
The number of people in B.C. hospitals with COVID-19 has declined slightly, continuing a downward trend from last week. As of July 28, there are 401 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19, down from 406 last week. However, the number of people in critical care has jumped to 35 up from 30 last week. B.C. records COVID hospitalizations through census counts. That means not everyone in hospital who tests positive for COVID is there because of the virus. Reported cases are also on the decline. From July 17 to 23, there were 921 PCR confirmed cases, down from 1,043 the week before. These numbers only reflect PCR-confirmed tests and are an undercount of the true number as most British Columbians rely on rapid antigen tests to determine whether they have COVID. Hospital admissions are also down, with the BC CDC initially reporting 222 people admitted to hospital with COVID-19 for the week of July 17 – 23. That's down from the 246 reported for the week prior. However, the nu

Business Model Innovation Is the Hottest Thing in Online Travel - Skift Travel News

Image
Skift Take Innovation comes in many forms. Sometimes it's a new technology. But for a growing number of online travel companies, it's all about disrupting traditional business models. Dennis Schaal Online Travel This Week One of the most interesting developments in online travel these days is companies overturning existing business models with AirAsia , eDreams Odigeo , and Hopper leading these efforts. These three aren't the only ones changing the ways travel companies have traditionally conducted business online, but they provide interesting test cases. Airlines have traditionally made their money selling flights, entering into lucrative deals with credit card companies, and charging for extras such as bag fees. Whether it succeeds or not, Capital A , which operates AirAsia, now can boast that the Malaysia-based airline group's superapp has more than 10 million monthly active users, and amo

B.C. expands speculation tax on vacant homes to 6 more regions - CBC.ca

Image
British Columbia is expanding the speculation tax on homeowners who keep their properties vacant to six more municipalities starting next year. The B.C. government first introduced the tax in 2018. Currently, any homeowner with a vacant residence will pay 0.5 per cent of their property's assessed value under the tax, with the tax jumping to two per cent for foreign homeowners. The tax applies to most municipalities in the Lower Mainland and southern Vancouver Island, as well as Kelowna, West Kelowna, Nanaimo and the District of Lantzville. Now, the provincial government says it will expand it to Lions Bay and Squamish, as well as the Vancouver Island communities of North Cowichan, Duncan, Ladysmith and Lake Cowichan. "People in these communities have been vocal. They've been vocal about the intense housing pressures that they are facing, including speculation and near zero vacancy rates," said B.C. Finance Minister Selina R

Coastal Grandmother-Style Hotels For A Nancy Meyers-Worthy Vacation - The Zoe Report

Image
The "coastal grandmother" aesthetic that TikToker Lex Nicoleta coined doesn't just pertain to fashion. Rather, the laidback, luxurious look (largely influenced by the older women of Nancy Meyers films) is a lifestyle. Meaning achieving it isn't just about what you wear — it's about living your life in a way that embodies the mood. While making Ina Garten recipes and decking in your home in Nantucket-inspired decor are certainly a few ways to do that, there is another option for immersing yourself in the dream: A stay at a coastal grandmother-style hotel, which is guaranteed to give you a full cozy, seaside experience that even Diane Keaton would be proud of. With these resorts, bed and breakfasts, and cottages, all that's left to do is grab your oversized white button-down, clutch your cup of steaming hot tea, and relax — they provide the rest. That is, they come complete with either tasteful, coastal decor, ocean views, sea breezes, a wistful-yet-contented vi
